Going off topic today but thought I would share this with you.
So, the most amazing thing happened to me. For the first time ever, one of my patients decided to give me a gift to thank me for being a good and gentle dental hygienist.
I know most of you are probably asking yourselves- what’s so special about that? Well, as dental hygienists we have the one of the most hated professions in the world. Patients always come into the practice looking like they just suck on a lemon or the world has just come to an end…
“Are you okay?” I always make sure to ask…
“Yes, its just that I hate the hygienist, no offence to you just your profession!” they always spit out!
They then give me that sideways glance, sit on the dental chair and as I put the chair down. Their heads are literally hanging from the opposite side- away from me.
“Are you sure you are okay?”
“Yes, its just that the last hygienist really butchered my gums and I hope you not going to do the same!”
Oh great, its just so like me to go and choose one of the most hated professions in the world. And now I have a new added profession.
Dental hygienist/ dental therapist/dental butcher!
Just great! lol. I have never butcher anyone by the way, so please don’t come into my chair looking at me like I am a gum serial killer or gum murderer… Lol
Jokes aside, I do love my profession and job. Despite my patients’ feelings towards me…ooh I meant towards my profession. I always make sure I give my best and always keep positive as hard as it might be…
Which brings me to the point I was making- stay true to yourself no matter what because at the end of the day, what matters the most is how you feel about yourself once all is done. Your personality is what makes you unique so don’t let the negativity change you. Focus on the positives.

Please share something that has happened to you and despite it all, you stayed true to yourself!
